3d max does not apply materials

hi, I installed yesterday 3d max 2017 (only version supported by my pc) to put the materials on a model prepared on rhino 6. But it doesn't make me apply them. How come? I uploaded an image and nothing, I tried with the preset ones and idem. the icon is just off.
