3d software choice and rendering

Hello everyone!

This is my first thread on this forum and I apologize early if I have mistaken the section in which I will post.

this summer, given the great amount of free time, I decided to study some software to increase the quality of the projects I carry out during the school year. wandering through the network and reading different opinions came to the following combination of software: autocad architecture 2014 in student version + revit architecture in student version + a software or engine for rendering

But I also have some questions like:
- 17 years can you learn to use discreetly revit and at least a rendering software?
Can I make it straight?

- What rendering engine should I use given my non-existent knowledge in this field? I read that revit also has a rendering engine, mental ray, is it difficult?

- What exactly is the bim, since on wikipedia and on the web I found uncompressible definitions? Could I have some kind of example?

- for these software a graphics card nvidia picture k600 would be okay?

I would start from mr since you already find it ready on revit, autocad and 3ds max. depends on what you mean by "difficult"; It's not a walk if that's what you want to know. do not think to press a button and have immediately rendered very cool. . .

bim is a process based on intelligent models and is the acronym for building information modeling (or management). when drawings in autocad (note that I use the term "drawing") a wall, for you it is a wall but for autocad are only 2 lines flanked without any intelligence. on revit instead when you create a wall of fact you have generated an exact virtual reproduction of a real wall, with its stratigraphy and physical properties of materials, which you may use for energy calculation or structural analysis. I don't know if it's clear where I want to get here. . :wink:
