associate blanks with solids

I'm at first and I just can't figure out how to associate the blanks with the solids. I have searched but I have found nothing specific, probably the guide is explained but it is a matter of getting it through because from a research I find nothing.

I solved, almost randomly because looking for things like "solid axe" or "uniting solid blanks" I couldn't find anything at all. Plus they thought well to call the geometry-cut command instead of subtracting or something like that, so that they confuse even better.
