Good morning to all, review this forum for the second time. I would need your help with a modeling problem. I am performing the design of a roof with curved beams and should insert a anchoring plate in the head of the beam similar to this of the image I attach (locate me if it is too small, but I do not find better..).
Do I have to create a new family? and if you in which category you will want to insert it? I thank already in advance who will advise me. .

You must create a new family.
the category can be chosen according to the use, the prerogatives of "interconnection" with families of other categories, the listing in the abachi, etc.

Should the hinge merge on one side to a concrete plinth and on the other to a wooden beam, could be good " generic model based on surface"?

Yes, as you can "enter" the zipper both to the plinth and to the head of the wooden beam.
remember that generic families are not abacable, therefore can be transformed (rename) the category of the family into another type (e.g. mechanical equipment)

the hinge you drew directly into mechanical equipment?
I also ask you how you designed the wooden beam. I had to arrange with the 2010 version, drawing aside a system of curved beams that I put in fixed pieces, but I think I will have problems with the abachi. .

the 2011 version (and also 2012) allow to draw directly the curved beams, 2010 no.
the zipper designed it as a generic family:
- the base plate (generic on surface)
- a second generic family (the rib with the hole) nested in the first.
I subsequently changed category (from generic to mechanical attr.)
I do not remember if the "change" of category can be done with the ver. 2010.
