hello to all, I am a mechanical engineer but, for some "absurd" reason, work in the field of construction. One of the biggest problems I'm facing is the choice of a 3d modeling software that allows me to be able to make computations, then extracting the various quantities modeled (quantity takeoff). I used for years catia, solidworks, inventor, etc. in the mechanical field, therefore the only modeling that I know well is the parametric variable one. I tried to use revit, but I did so much effort, because I found it difficult to get out of the preset patterns (if, for example, I have to join three walls, maybe not orthogonal between them, why should the software create the junction according to a logic that is all yours? I am used to model every single detail, so a software that tries to "invent" what I have in mind slows me down and does not speed me in any way!). Then they recommended me vectorworks that is already more like a mechanical modeler, even if I don't look very well with that, especially because I can't generate the basic sketches of the features quickly and then because I can't find an effective way to bind the models to the absolute reference system, so I have blocks that "go" in space to every erroneous click with the mouse.
I ask you: Do you know a software that is variable parametric, that allows me to carry out the quantity takeoff of the individual models and that has, possibly, a contained price?
Thank you all!

hello if you already know how to use inventor and revit they talk, create in inventor amounts in revit

I know some architects using archicad, I don't know if it's your case, even if I don't know it personally.

Thank you very much to all for the answers!

I had actually thought about this solution, but I would be paying two licenses (also quite expensive) to get this result.

I heard about archicad, but I never used it. I hope to find a trial version, although I think it is similar to revit as operation.

parametric cads and bim are just different planets. There are applications to use the parametric cad as a motor and the application works like cad bim. years ago I evaluated one for solidworks, I do not remember the name, but it was not enough for my needs. also existed for creo parametric.
in my opinion, you will never be able to manage with a parametric a mega together in the same way as a bim software, you will never compete with the speed of a bim software and you will be competitive only in very particular situations where bim software fails to operate.

my experience is the parameterization of inventor -> family creation -> revit

Sure if you do simple things later you can do in revit... but to model in revit you need another brain than you learned in inventor...

At this point he also tries Bricscad.... the ultimate version, which includes variable parametric solid modeler (mechanical) and bim.
bim objects - like walls - are also generated by transforming 3d solids designed with classic methods. bricscad recognizes them and automatically ranks them. has a different approach to revit in the construction of the model.
the mechanical sw and the bim live in the same environment and share the same dwg files without problems.
of bricscad is available the trial version for 30gg and also the price is accessible.
