caelinux operating system? ?

I am a Windows xp user, so ignorant of the linux world, I would be willing to use caelinux for the fem, I would like to know: but caelinux is already itself an operating system, or first I have to install an operating system of linux and then install caelinux?

Basically: is it an operating system or a program? ?

It's a program, but you can download it in livedvd and instead of installing everything, you do it from there... so you try it because from what I know and from what I saw here also on the forum is not really simple in its use. . .

then, there are two versions of ceelinux: 32-bit 2008 and 64-bit 2009. both are complete distributions, which is the integrated package of engineering programs and operating system.

If you don't need the operating system, you can download the "salome-meca 2009" program which is an integration of the pre-post processor with the real solutor and propio. but the programs included are 32-bit.

Basically:

salome-meca: salome (pre-post) + code-aster (fem solver)

caelinux2008: salome-meca + pclinuxos 32 bit

caelinux2009: salome-meca + ubuntu 8.04 64 bit (aster filled with 64 bit).

caelinux is a "complete" distribution, meaning that a pc can work.
However it is a distribution dedicated to the cae, so there are many other useful things that in a pc should be.
I used the 2008 version (to tell us, the one based on pclinuxos) in live but I was extremely dissatisfied because it is very slow and uses very bad memory.
the best thing is to have a distribution installed on the hd (I use linux mint 6) and then install, as they said hunter, meca salome.
meca salome is for 32-bit pc, if the configuration is not modified does not allow to solve analysis from 64-bit pc. However, this problem can be easily solved by changing the configuration of the program.
