change part but keep it in the old assemblies

Hello everyone

is there a possibility to change a part inserted in different assemblies but that this change only appears in new ones?

to make a practical example, we say that I have a plate1.ipt in which I have 4 holes m6, now for requirement, from today on, one of the holes must become a m8 but I would like to maintain the same name that is plate1.ipt.
Obviously, if I change the part, this hole m8 will also appear in all the old assemblies I have done until now.

Is there a way to overcome this problem or am I forced to create a new part?

do a review? ? i.e. rename the file with filename_ rev01 and where you need to put only the revision.

However if the piece you go to edit will not be fully interchangeable with the previous ones I do not think that making a revision is 'correct' (I say correct because I do not get a better term ): I would completely change the name/code. I'm used to using the last revision on old machines, and this way of organizing has saved us from many scratches. by curiosity (even if you might go off-topic), you guys do what?
returning to the original problem however I also do as it indicates davide75: copy file_r01 and use that for future machines.
Bye!

or otherwise, create a new configuration using "ipart" within the same file, so the file name remains the same, but within it there are two configurations: the original one with the four holes m6, and the one derived with a hole m8 and the remaining m6.
in the new axiemi, you will insert your part "piastra1.ipt" whose name will remain unchanged, only that at the moment of insertion or replacement within the new axieme, you will have the possibility to choose one of the two configurations created by you, that with the hole m8 or that with the holes m6.

I would do so, more than even in the separate components there would be no problem, as in the configuration table "ipart", there is the possibility to assign the name you want to the two configurations.

Therefore in the column "code" or "number design" or as you call it, you would appear the name of the configuration, which would be in everything and for everything as a name of a new file, but with the difference that it is a configuration within a same file, and not a separate file (but you know it only!).

I hope I explained.

Bye.

Thank you very much for the tips.

I have both been useful, now I will try to see what is best for my cases:finger:
