hi to all I have to create the axieme of a new machine starting from the previous v ersione of which keeps many unchanged components. I hold the two projects in different folders on the pc and at first I create a simple copy of the "old machine" folder and starting from a copy of the old machine axieme I make changes until I get the new machine. Moreover I would like to leave unchanged the names of the components that do not change between the two machines and add a simple suffix on the pieces of the new machine that instead are changed. in the axieme of the "new machine" I have to change all the file paths of the elements that compose it by pointing to the folder "new machine " otherwise the changes I make on the new components go to change the files "old machine". I tried to do it with the command replace components but it tells me that I can not replace an element of the axieme with another element with the same name even if on different folders.
Is there another command that allows me to simply change the file path of each element or do I have to change the names of all the components of the new machine?

if to make copy of the entire folder use the Pack & go in the list of the window that opens you can change names and paths individually (but in this case the new path will already be assigned, you do not need to change it) of the files and go to save everything where it seems to you. then open the renamed files and edit them as a new version.

or did I misunderstand what you mean?

greetings

hi marco, excuse me but where is the "pack and go", in what menu is it? Thank you.

is part of the "operations" of solidworks explorer, but you can find it directly in the menu file.
or from the explorer (also windows) right clik on the file and voice solidworks (where there is also Replace e renaming).

Hello
marco

I would do another way.
open the axieme "old machine" and do a "Save by name" in another folder as "new machine"
at this point you have two perfectly equal axioms pointing to the same files (the ones of "old machine").
Now you can open the "new machine" and start making "saves like" of the details that change, without flagging "save as a copy" so that sw automatically replaces them in the "new machine".
in this way you get the desired result: you will have the same components that will be shared and the new only in "new machine".
Or you would need a pdm.

But I would pay attention to one thing: "old machine" or "new machine" must be first-level assemblies otherwise you need to check "save as a copy". you risk otherwise to replace "old machine" with "new machine" within other assemblies.

I would do this with solidworks explorer
