Hello everyone,
I would need your opinion!

I am already dependent as a designer of particulars and related molds for a company that produces for injection molding, but I have the opportunity (and the need!) to privately design the components of machinery for aesthetic studies.

my initial work concerns only the design of the component design, which is compact to the use that will be done and the molding process that will follow.

It is not therefore a job that will involve a thorough study as you could do for a particular technician, but it is limited only to design: I propose different versions, and chosen by the customer the best you can change the design several times according to the needs (insertion of other components. . . )

how would you assess the cost of design?and of course, how would you ask?

in these cases it is difficult to quantify. first you need to know whether the software you put it or the customer. In the first case, considering that between taxes and contributions "disappears" 50-55% of what remains net of expenses, the rates "mime" so that the activity makes sense are from 25-30€/h... maybe 20€/h in case the customer stands with an advance and a contract of continuous collaboration.

working in black and with software not adjust things change, but (morality and finance apart) I would distrust a client who asked me to work under certain conditions.

First of all, I recommend that you be careful because if the work you go to work at home is considered in competition with that of your office, give your owners the opportunity to fire you in the trunk when they want with just cause.

Whereas a standard solidworks license costs 6,500 and 1.550/year of maintenance (discounts aside) you must above all evaluate how many hours you will work and it is worth it. a solution could be to ask your owners to enable the second activation of your license at home and use that to do the job. In this way you would not spend anything, you would still be in order and with an updated package.
That said a fair price with software at your expense must be around 30 €/h and you will see that after paying the expenses and having done 730 (or the only) you will not find yourself rich.
if you can use the office software so much better for you but I wouldn't be below 20 €/hour anyway.

consider to remove a 50-55% from these 20 euros and then you will see that they are not many then. I add: if you know you are good and fast above average you offer package prices, it depends a lot on your professional skills. . .
