Bye to all,
I introduce myself: I am a three-year mechanical engineer and I have just begun the master.
I have 8 years of professional experience mainly as:

- automation machine designer
- machine designer and related induction
- maintenance manager and special interventions on tri and cogeneration plants

My work takes place at 99% in the office and this begins to stay tight, I need a more dynamic job.
for this I am maturing the idea of giving me to the free profession (obviously with registration to the section b in wait of the master).
In particular, I would be interested in certification and design of domestic/industrial plants or in practical energy certification style. maybe even maintain a part of machine design if needed.

My goal is not to become rich but to equip, maybe after 1-2 years of activity my current economic situation: I have a heral of 44k€ and sixth level metalmechanical.

Would you be so kind to give me some opinion? I will certainly receive insults, but I am in good faith and I ask to understand whether I say baggianate (possible) or not. I know well that the free profession requires great sacrifices, I am the son of an artisan (in all other sector) and I know how it works. thank you in advance to those who will help me.

from your statements I assume that you carry out a subordinate work, in which case throw away 8 years of experience in an environment you already know well should make you reflect.
If your need is to have a more dynamic job, I would start evaluating (if you haven't already done it) if in the company where I find myself there are alternative positions that would offer me greater satisfaction, if so I would talk to a superior by exposing my needs.
often in the company where you work there are various opportunities to grow professionally with relative economic adjustment, also changing type of job; If you're a designer in a company, you don't have to die (professionally) as a designer. I know some people who have started playing with subalternative roles in production, technical staff, commercial offices and now have management positions in important companies also multinationals.
if you want to make the choice of free profession, even on this forum you will find others who have preceded you and who have received pro and con tips, but everything depends on you, on the demand of the market, what services you offer, on the type of competition, how you can propose; as you see the variables are so many and each of us can give you suggestions conditioned by a personal experience that because of the many variables you will probably not be able to help you much.
there are you, your experience, your skills and there is an arena waiting for you and you will have to fight every day to have (not always) satisfactions. :

Thank you very much for the answer, really complete. Unfortunately in these 6 months of 2021 I did a stupid thing behind the other. in January I was a designer at a multinational company in the Italian naval sector (who knows who) and resigning I had proposed to become vice chief workshop, unfortunately I was seduced by returning home (I worked at 55 km from home). Now unfortunately I am in a small company that has no chance to offer me a more dynamic position and I realized that I did a huge stupid thing. therefore for this I am evaluating the free profession, I press that I have always seen it as a step that sooner or later I would have done.

ciao slowing90,

Hi, I'm not an engineer but I'm lost, but I see myself in your own situation.
a council that uses in this forum and that I highly agree is not to give up the activity as an employee but to reconcile the two things. for the first period you could use the formula deemed to agree that allows you to move the first steps without excessive expenses. (eye at 5,000 €). in this way you can take away some satisfaction and throw the first bases for future development. (eye, don't get your hand and from the euphoria to the first recesses)
As far as the industry is currently concerned, I understand that you work in a mechanical company. You could hook up with some vendors for occasional collaborations so you can get to know each other.
regarding the sector ''practical style certifications etc..'' how much experience do you have? Do you have any contact with companies or administrators? have you already worked in this area?
given the target of these works you will have to collide with a sad reality given that you will have to relate to people who little understand us about these issues whose goal is to play down. you enter the experience and over all the trustee/professionist. that you do not teach or you learn but you get it on the field with experience.
In my opinion the mechanical design is more remunerative than the ''practical style certifications'' value well.
