Good morning to all, I wanted to ask you what are the procedures to choose a start of cementation or nitriding that is, I explain better:

I want to design a mechanical component, e.g. a tree, static verification, fatigue....eccc, for my use I need a hardened state, now my question is how do I choose the depth to hide in the component? what theories should be followed to arrive at least to a project of the hardened start?. Are there texts that treat this topic?, thank you very much for the answers, hello.

for the graded steels, find the maximum hardness you can get with a given treatment and depth
see for example the site of the boheler.
But be careful. .
to increase the depth of cementation or nitriding means to increase the time of stay in the oven and the costs rise to disposition.. .
