there is also the solid imploding command that also allows you to lower the tolerance of the model ..

You have to save them in a format that is kind of well accepted by thinkdesign ..
dwg for example only matters part 2d .. so you don't do anything.. you have to use the steps or iges .. if you pass for iges .. then you have to implode solid ..
 
test with "solid explosions" command
insert - surfaces - solid explosions
choose the surfaces that interest you and add the thickness with the "low" command

Many times I solve this.
