Good morning, everyone.
I am rotten and I am a designer in a company that designs and manufactures luxury yacht doors.
Recently customers have asked us about the 3d models of the doors we will supply.
having the design 2d I realized the 3d using inventor 2012.
to each component I set, in iproprieties, the type of material (stainless steel, glass, silicone, nylon etc.).
I tried to export the complete model in iges format, but it doesn't keep the colors of the individual components (steel, glass, etc.) and, once imported the iges file previously saved, I see everything in the same way, that is grey.
Is that normal or am I wrong? how can I export to iges while maintaining the visual characteristics of individual components (see transparent glass for example)

thanks and good day

Ing. Mar

normally steps and iges are neutral formats and as such carry geometry. no custom property information, no colors. some programs use some algorithm to export colors.

If there are no other options when saving the iges, I don't think you can do what you want.

but your client because he asks for files in that format?
normally they are asked in iges to use them as an interchange format, or by those who have to "work" above, maybe with machine tools.if maybe your client just wants to see the models proponigli the native format by adding the inventor viewer,so if you install it on his pc and see the models exactly as you created them....

my client only needs to take a look at the finished model of the door and insert it into the interior of the virtual model of the yacht.
I will try to follow the board of tarkus and propose to install a viewer for inventor.
Thank you very much for the answer.

your virtual yacht model is made with what? He doesn't do anything with the viewer if he still has to work on a 3d model. certainly with the viewer sees the colors etc to give in addition to the iges.

I think his model is made with nx...
the easiest thing to get him to import my door model into his yacht model is to send him an iges file...no? ! ?

according to me if you have additional utilities can import even in native files. however stp and iges are generic interchange files for all 3d
