It is not necessary to make the work plan active, as long as there is at least one line, white or pink, or one point within it, as well as it is absolutely not necessary to make active the part on which you work, if it is active it is selected by default for any type of processing or Boolean operation, but if you want to work on another part just select it, instead you can select multiple parts together.
