distinct materials from excel

Hello, everyone.
in the online guide of sw2009 it is written that, to insert a distinct materials from excel it is necessary to have, at least, of the version 2000: o.k., are in place (I have 2003), but, in the menu "insert/tabelle" the voice "different materials in excel" is in grey, therefore not usable; the same goes for "data table" (which has the excel icon).
I guess it's because somewhere there's something to set up.
Can someone help me?

I thought it was possible to insert a table made with excel in a drawing 2d, instead of a generic table, in which, to insert data, you have to double-click each cell, while, in excel, you just have to move with the cursor (not to mention the possibility of importing data from other sheets/cells) and is therefore much faster to compile the fields.

the solution is to insert the excel sheet as an ole object.
from the sw drop-down menu... insert, object and selections from the file I your excel sheet.

related question: is it possible to assign properties of 2d blocks (in table environment) and then get the distinct from 2d?

solid edge for example can't (at least until v20) but it would be a very comfortable thing when you make the tire system schemes: import the block of the valve or subbase with all the properties already compiled, and automatically have the list of components.

No... it's not possible.
the only insertable attributes are those to make the block with dynamic notes.
by dynamic means:
- I insert the block of an engine that is called ad345 and lacks power, the block can contain an attribute that compiled becomes a345 50 watts.

for your purpose there is visio or other visio style packages that fit like ole objects in the drawings.
