I am a student of the last year of mechanical iti. last year we saw and worked on autocad 2008, while this year we are using solidworks 2010.
a mechanical drawing contest was proposed (adm http://adm.ing.unibo.it/) and since I like to draw a lot, I decided to participate with other classmates, in total we are in 5.
the problem is that there are not many ideas for a possible design. We initially wanted to realize an assembly of an internal combustion engine, but the difficulty in finding drawings of the pieces with its quotations made us give up. Now our professor has given us advice on possible drawings, but to us they seem all things that do not affect those who see them and so that they could not be potential winning drawings and since the first place a few years ago was a motor of the dukedom:wink:, we wanted to do something also of "fascinating". :finger:

you who surely know more about me in the field and all the rest, don't you have any advice for this contest? (something in which it is easily recoverable at least some sketch of the parts)

we just have to make the solid design (and the puts at the table I think), nothing else. we use solidworks as already mentioned.

Today at school I asked my lab professor to give an opinion, saying that we initially wanted to make a motor, but we had given up because we found the drawings.
He gave us permission to use the alpha romeo engine 4 cylinders a v (other I don't know) that we have in the lab. disassemble it and make the relief of the measures from the real and reassemble it. the other idea was to make drawings in the details of a station in the project area that we are doing as a class for maturity. the project is a complete tube machine, but it is not made in detail.
I think that, however, we will remain on the engine idea, also because being fascinated by the engines and having the possibility to dismantle it and reassemble it;) hehe takes us even more ^^^

Maybe you know where to find guides for moving with solidworks? because for the part of the drawing and the puts on the table there are no particular problems, but the handling still we have not treated it ^^
if there is something simple, so to quickly understand at least the basic movements for a motor ^^

Well, you're lucky, the engine has only one movement: rotary... and the others
are the product of such rotation.
for cams there is a special coupling, which is called cam:biggrin:, the piston that has an alternating mov.... just apply it to concentricity with
cilintro and the game is made.... or almost:biggrin:
