parts from simple things, like a cube:
make an extruded profile and assign to the extrusion variable a variable
in this way td creates an electronic sheet variable.

then go on tools -> animation
below you should open a window to manage animations

right button on the animation pane-> add
right button on the evolutions -> add -> variable .. here select the variable that has just created you
right button on variations -> add
right button on the newly created variation -- here set the values and the game is made ..

simple,
during the extrusion, before confirming the command opens a casellin where you can enter the extrusion value.
If you put them in there, for example the letter "a", you automatically generate the variable in the electronic sheet.

If you've already done the extrusion, you'll be redefining it, and with the same system mentioned above you get the desired behavior.
