Yes, once you take the hand and set the whole for good the function is very powerful. and the created distinct are immediate and complete (and add all the items you want, everything is to organize before work.. it is perhaps long but then remains). and in any case you can export them to excel (key, they won't be more parametric) and "imagine them"/form them as you think.

the individual bodies can be "extracted" and saved independently in as many parts files (without "history" though) remaining parametric with the father bodies of the multibody file of origin.

in 2010 you can manage all the bodies individually and then assign different materials (until now you made a multibody but monomaterial).
