good evening to all, I wanted to understand if the situation in which I found myself from a period to this part is or not normal .. I carried out an internship in the within of a formative project of 12 months...with promises of glory and professional growth I have been placed in the technical office of a large company recognized at international level as supplier of industrial components (sector automation) at first I have done works of programming software (though having specified to have been formed as a mechanical designer) without practically any kind of flanking (the whole thing is limited to: "there is the microcontroller, the plc , the hmi also determined this is the mouse, the keyboard ).So after a while, since I felt "parked" and I didn't think I could make an advantage to the company under the conditions in which I was put to work (given my "ignorance in matter" and the lack of participation of those who had to join me) I asked to be moved into what they call internally "mechanical design department" ....after many stories of the type "you're an immature". fact is that the "mechanical design" department from what I see has little to do with design because they mainly deal with bureaucratic (non-technical) paperwork and make some small modification to some existing product design such as changing the location of some hole (without any criterion or logic design),put data into a software that magically returns values in output (without making any calculation with pen paper and reasoning at the base). I found myself doing the "mechanical projector" in a commercial company (the mother's home is abroad)... but I don't pretend here... even in the new office they don't give me jobs, they ignore me and I feel practically invisible. .not that I don't care now because fortunately I have already accepted another job proposal in a small company that builds automatic machines that really made me a great impression when I did the interview..but according to you...this situation is normal in our country or was I unfortunate to happen? do big companies think about it all more or less so (they leave you to rot)?

p.s. I did not choose to work there and cover these tasks (the preferences I have expressed in the context of the training project, which they should have taken into account, were well others because there was the possibility of doing internships in different companies with different roles). .

thanks to all for the answers and excuse the vent and the longings.. but the people who tease who really wants to commit with humility and perseverance makes me mad. . .

I would say, unfortunately, 90% is normal.

As far as design is concerned, I can only tell you that Italian companies no longer enter the market innovative products but products created specifically to meet certain customer specifications (which can also be, as you wrote, to move a hole without a logic).
the vast majority of technical offices serve as "product configurator and workshop service" rather than "research and development".

I do not know about mechanics, but the big companies are almost all foreign, in Italy they only have offices for the marketing of the product. I think it is plausible that there is no "design" office.
So I am lucky to enter the few remaining exceptions, or you might find it more profitable to work in one of the many small companies, but they still plan something, giving you the opportunity to learn a job.

Maybe ..the workshop not even with the binoculars they make us look...and it was also this that led me to seek (and happily find) elsewhere..as one does to evolve professionally if he does the simple performer without art, without knowing whether what he does and correct or not, without being given the opportunity to wrong and learn from his own mistakes...for charity they are uses of all respect also these... but it is absurd that it is .

I agree fully or at least. ..this is what I brought home from this experience...the most absurd thing is that the work was "presented" me in one way and turned out to be anything else. . . very little serious attitude...that is, don't say "mechanical designer" if you don't even do half structural calculation and don't even put half dimensional tolerance for years.. It will also be normal but it is not normal (personal speaking). .
