I would have a question about the step format we use:
we have to produce beams with hea/ipe profile with holes and a new supplier has just told us that the .step format is an obsolete format.
sincerely we have always used this format as a universal format (we use solidworks) to export 3d files and therefore it is convenient to "semit" to various suppliers.

the question is very simple:
according to your experience the step format is obsolete or not? is he simply creating problems where they are not there?
other universal formats to be used if necessary?

the neutral step format does not seem obsolete, indeed it seems to me one of the best and very used as an exchange format for 3d files.
There are also other neutral formats such as iges, sat, parasolid.
Probably the supplier meant something else. clarify.
in any case I would ask your supplier (talk with someone from the technical office directly) because it considers it obsolete and possibly that format would prefer.
