I really can't tell you what level your workstation can be but I want to tell you one thing, two: with current prices you can buy a second generation i7 to 600 euros with 6 gb ram ddr3 and dedicated video card, so how could you buy an old car?
then:when you talk about autocad 2d and then add 3d and say it as if it was the state of the art of cad you realize what implications do you generate?

There are programs that make the so-called piping at much higher levels and I suggest you give it at least one look. . .
