Hello, everyone.
Does anyone use geomagic design x 2020?
I installed it to manage stl files in the trial version and I would like to understand how it works.
I imported stl file from 3d scanner, how do I get a stp or iges or x_t that can be used in my 3d nx9 modeler?
Do I have to reconstruct the surfaces manually or are you able to do it alone?
Thank you.

can reconstruct both automatically and manually
depends on the surfaces and your knowledge of its tools

Give me a tip of how can I try to make an automatic reconstruction? Unfortunately I can't do a training yet...
However in general it is not that you import a stl and you export in a moment a stp or igs with a command, right?
Thank you. .

however found on google in three minutes. I'll be sick, but, very kind @nicola21 After three discussions, if we could give you more, we would have done it.

ciao @nicola21 I am in your same situation, I downloaded a few days ago the software in free trial, and I am trying to generate the step from a scan, sincerely I expected something simpler and faster, but I realized that for our use of mechanical geometric shapes is not the maximum to scan and reverse, it works all much better with free forms. However I can tell you what I understood these days, first you load your stl, then try to automatically generate the surface from your mesh, I set as tolerance 0.2 and maximum quality, here you play everything, the system starts to work and if you are lucky you have your surface / solid to export in step. other info shortly after I downloaded the software I was contacted by the marketing office for general questions and gave me the availability of a more technical info. Unfortunately they did not give me a date and I hope the technician does not call after 15 days of free trial.

ciao @shirokko, in my case I am looking for a solution for the company for which I work, as the cad used direct modeling does not provide a module and there is no info for future versions that can open .stl files, I am trying to generate a "light" step file with geomagic x or similar. Unfortunately the .stl starting file is very complex (automatic machine injection taken by scanning with Artec leo scanner). for now with a file in stl by about 9mb I managed with freecad to generate a step of about 500mb while using geomagic x a file of about 2 gb, surely I am not knowing the software not correctly imposed the various configurations, little ago I generated with geomagic a file of about 370mb but still too heavy.

ciao, @marcok625. I'm not a x design specialist, so I could say a lot of stupid things. I can only tell you that for my experience there are no optimal automatic solutions. the functions of self surfacing of the various geomagic applications can only recalcate in a more or less faithful way the elaborate mesh, but if you want a light and functional geometric model I think you should redesign the geometries through the appropriate primitives.

Thank you. @shirokko I think that's how it is, after a few attempts with different configurations, I think there's no way to get them to digest complex geometries without losing hours, sin. Unfortunately we have chosen I believe the only cad that still cannot open the stl yet the licenses are not economic. Perhaps the best solution is to work directly on the stl but in another cad, because the goal is to use the information taken by the scanner as an unmistakable block and mount on other things.

do not believe that many cads are properly handling the stl, especially scanning ones. personally, when I have needs like the ones you describe, I put a piece with rhinoceros.
