I don't understand your problem. What you want to achieve is the thread or outer surface of the ring? I usually when I have to orientate curves on a surface, first I unroll the uvs, I draw you on and then I reapply them! they are well, also calculating the type of surface you have. If there are subsquadri or elbows, the hexagons are deformed.
