hi, it's the first time I write (maybe the forum is not the right one), I hope someone can help me
I'm doing the specialist thesis in mechanical engineering and now I have to check a component using patran(or I can also use comsol or ansys)
My doubt is this: I have two parts of a tree (disegni separated in solid works) which must be framed among themselves in a hexagonal carving, making the static verification of each, how do I impose in patran the moment? or should I impose pressure but in the hollow?and the other end of the tree must I impose it as fixed?

thank you in advance for the answers, hello!

Good morning, good year.
apart from presenting you in the appropriate section and posting the question in the forum of patran, you should also better describe the model.

if the tree is made with beam elements, the moment applies with putting a force to the knot.
If your tree is made of solid elements, you must put pressure on the interface that represent the load that the tree trades. pressures must be such as to generate a moment.

if you want to use patran, ansys or comsol, the choice depends on you, depending on your interest and what is used in university.
according to my personal statistics of use of products:

patran:-> aerospace / naval
ansys:-> mechanics (large branches is structured)
comsol:-> mechanics (smaller and more innovative companies)

So, in the case of a hollow shaft, is it enough to put a couple of forces on the outer ray?

depends on how the cable shaft models.
If you do it with solid elements, the forces you have to put on all the knots of the elements in the thickness. If you do it with shell elements, then the forces put them on the individual knots. If you do it with beam elements, you have to put a couple, as the knot stands on the center of the axis.
Otherwise, you can reunite knots with a rbe and apply a single force to the node of the rbe, if perhaps placed an image of what you have to simulate and how you want to discretize it maybe you can help you better.
greetings

View attachment 39212the image is this, as far as you try it does not start the analysis.
is a tree to which another must be framed in the hexagonal recess.
I click: load/bcs, then right into object metto force and under nodal, and in imput date I put the moment around the axis z then <0 0 87> then select the hexagonal crown
then I start the analysis but it does not save me the file that I then have to insert to see the results
