First thing I suggest, is to load all materials on the generic and activate only what you care about for the generic.
then the material of the variants, the selection from the table of family table (you should have the possibility of selection with a drop-down menu).
regenerate the whole family table and see if it works.

I followed your suggestions for thread and sign, but the problem remains.
even from inside the family table of the generic set of all point, without loading the variant in session, just press on the command "verification variants of family table" I see in the graphics area that the generic
takes the appearance of the material set of the variant....

searching on the web I found that there were similar problems in the old wf.... but possible that I always match on some bugs....

.mat files must be copied to your material folder.
colors are deliberately those of the "global.dmt" so we should all be aligned.
