Hello everyone, I hope this is the appropriate section.. .

I have a customer to which we sold a pc hp z230 with i7 46xx, k600, 4gb ram. uses solidworks + solidcam + imachining.
until it uses solidworks and solidcams there are no problems, the pc works well (although with 4gb of ram extra and a ssd would go much better) but when it starts imachining and starts the calculations for the optimization of the path the pc begins to grind indefinitely and the window with the counter remains blocked at times to 80% sometimes to 20% depending on the processing.

I see that the cpu only employs 2/3 cores, the ram is not used all so I do not understand why it blocks and gives problems.
I know that solidxxxx programs prefer few cores but fast and about 8gb ram while I don't know imachining what it prefers.

What do you think can be? use 2014 versions on win7 64bit

Is machining the latest version? If yes, it's strange because it's only going on win7 and win8.
if instead it is a version for xp and for win7 then it is very easy.
Many programs seem and say that they go well also x win7 ... until they jump out problems ... especially with 64-bit versions.
Unfortunately many make the mistake of updating a new pc without updating the software (usually much more expensive).
if the software was not born expressly for 64bit, probably from less scratches install win7 to 32bit.
that both hardware to create problems is less likely even if not impossible, some problems can give you graphics cards if they are not the ones recommended by the software.
The 'only' 4gb rams should not be a problem, but try to support them with 8gb perhaps is the fastest thing to do (just to try).
If you find the solution, communicate it, it is always interesting to know...

the workstation was born so (purchased in March this year) with w7 x64.
solidworks is 2014 and solidcam 2013, I can't understand the version of the imchining but I presume both the last visa has been purchased recently.
in any case I will verify the maintenance contract that they have and if possible I will install the latest versions of the available sw and discard the latest drivers available from the dassault site (I don't know if they are modified special versions but if they release them there will be).

I opened a ticket on the solidworld portal where they inform me that imachining uses the video card so check that the drivers are up to date and maybe the version available on their portal and possibly think of an upgrade of video card.

new update:
the pc also sleeps with the current configuration... I only installed for scruple certified drivers and made a cleaning of the pc with ccleaner.
I installed gadgets to monitor the use of cpu/ram/svideo/lan/hd and in the end just a ram update (from 1x4 the customer prefers to switch directly to 2x8) just to go on the safe.
Since data is on a network server a small bottleneck is in the switch (10/100) which will be replaced by a gigabit.

during the various operations the video card is occupied to the maximum 17% (rotation view), of the cpu are used to maximum 3 cores and almost never to 100%. lan instead in phase of opening and closing projects is long used to 100%.
Also the disk is not used much so does not justify the passage to a ssd... different speech if the project is copied locally.

only problem left is when you save the piece in stl and you try to reopen it.. . if you make files - open reports that the piece has too many faces and cancels the operation, instead if you double click on the file part solidworks but you plant
the same open file with another third party program that does not center anything with sw opens without any problems... seems to be a problem/limiting of sw itself.

I don't understand. Is it working or implanted?
When I read the post I was doubtful, isn't it that they set the temporary workbook or the sudden self-saving on the server?
