Good morning to all,
I often have to insert quite complex 2ds, made in autocad, in a 3d cathegue, so as to have it as reference during modeling.
the technique I use is to open the .dwg and then make a copy & paste in a sketch, on a separate part. the sketch so created however is horribly heavy both in management and in simple display.

Are there better techniques?

Thank you.

No, I know.
the only thing I can suggest and clean up the dxf that amounts that surely could contain many overlapping lines.
You can do this in a sketch environment with the sketch analytical.

Hi.

is the layout of a plant, with lots of details of motors, micro, valves, pipes, stairs, and who more has it.. .
I must necessarily select the only elements that interest me, with so much patience.. .

Thank you.

fulvio, maybe you've already solved the problem, but another thing you can do is join the suggestion of ferrity and your idea, but I don't know if you lighten the sketch.
Let me explain: with the sketch analysis technique, search for the contours that interest you and copy them in another sketch and do the same with all the closed contours you will find.
you'll have some lines that will be double or multiple, those don't matter.
try and let me know

no, vabbé, the layout of a plant contains the views of hundreds of machines (motors, drives, paintings, railings, stairs, cabinets, carpenters, piping, etc.). It makes no sense to look for closed contours.

I just wanted to say to catia "look that I don't have to work on this design, it's useless that you treat it like a sketch, it's okay even if you just show it to me on the scale"

I have not solved, or rather, I recalculate the areas I need, but it is long, laborious, and you always forget about the pieces...

Bye.

maybe you can solve your problem with this package:

2d layout for 3d design (lo1)

at this link there is also a video that explains to great lines to what
serves and how it works
http://www.tutorialhero.com/click-47407-2d_layout_for_3d_design_(lo1).phpI showed a Spanish designer of a company who collaborated with my (or rather ... where I work) to a European project and uses it to model in 3d starting from a 2d design. In this way you have in the catpart, exactly the same tools of drafting and it probably becomes more comfortable than copying the drawing into the sketch.
Unfortunately, I do not know which license this package can be used with.

I hope I've been helpful
Bye.

I saw the footage, I didn't realize if that's what I need. I try to get the package in evaluation and see if it works.
I keep updated

Thank you.

in the sketcher environment you may "change" the elements that you do not care about in building elements so they do not disturb you.

thanks for the answer

I had in the past a problem similar to yours, without knowing the module suggested by tvi71it (if you can try it, then tell us how it goes!), and I did so:
1. I used to control the original file in autocad, as they come to some crap. . .
2. I imported in 2d
3. I created a part where I created several sketches for "group". For example, one for the electrical part, one x the hydraulic part, one for the tire, one carpentry... and I glued from the 2d the relevant parts
4. I put in construction (in sketches) everything "not indispensable"
5. in 3d, I put in the work product such part, and I played a lot of show/no show on interesting sketches. I almost never saw them all together, because it seems to me that their visualization impacted a lot on computer resources (i.e. slowing down the job a lot).
comment: of course, it is a somewhat long and boring job, but at least in the end in 3d works with a certain rigour, and a better speed. . .

Yeah, that's the same thing I do. only that when I make copy and paste from 2d to 3d it also takes several minutes to paste. I won't tell you if I try to move the drawing just pasted. You can go for a coffee.

probably the stuff you copy is still too heavy, you have to try to "fragment" even more, maybe starting from well-made blocks in acad.
I can't tell you more, maybe you work with really monumental files. . .

the thing I ask myself and if you are developing your plant in a single part file or in a product, with inside variousparts.

because I think it is not necessary to cover the entire dxf in single sketch.

you just need to copy the element you need to rebuild on the single part.

copy/paste action in a single comuque sketch will keep you the relative position of the part compared to all others.
