import a 3d assembly from autocad to solidworks

a friend has realized a project in 3d with autocad and wants to make the table of the 3d

I advised him to do it with sw because very fast and simple to use, only that I do not know how to import the project.. .

or better, it is a problem of format compatibility, how should you save in project to be able to open it in sw?

- redesign everything in sw, using autocad sketches
- save autocad solids in stl format and import them into sw

However it is discreetly not effective to make a project with autocad and think to put in tavla with sw.

you can also open the 3d dwg directly as parts in solidworks; follow the instructions to videos and amounts as a model. you will have "imported solids", without modeling history but still parts assembled in swx and "untilable". of course you must have done in acad all 3d single files that make up the axieme; If in a single dwg file you designed your set you don't do anything (or better, you'd care about a single large part of the axieme).
At that point, as mentioned above, it is worth finishing the whole project with the starting program. . since the drawings of the details you have already made them.

depends on what dwg contains, if it is dwg created by carpentry software such as prodteel, tekla, etc... no spider cables from the hole and the best alternative is to open them with rhino, export them in step and then import them into swx.
rhino demo is free and allows 25 saves.

Yeah. needs inventor libraries to convert it. you can install the free autodesk viewer for inventor. Unfortunately I lost the link. look for it on the autodesk website.

you are right, if you have to spend time learning the sw table, then spend the same time learning the autocad table.
in case of modification of the 3d is found the updated table.

I installed dwg true view & autodesk design review but the files still do not convert them; when I import mdt data from the file he tries to load but after it does nothing:frown:

by experience I agree with gabriele.

pro:
if the autocad file contains elements such as solids and surfaces you can export it to acis ( .sat file) and you can import it into the 3d environment of swx.

against:
Imported models become weighers and from import wiz you should choose the layers to import. "Deselect layers containing non-useful entities"

I make an example: I imported pipes and without choosing anything I would have found a single set with a web of pipes and devices.
selecting the layers separating the individual devices all became very usable.

Note1. if imported objects have sharp or relatively simple shapes the boards will be usable; If they are surfaces without thickness, you may not rescind to have legible sections as you do in technical drawings because of the infinite lines and fines that are generated in autocad.
Note2. depending on the complexity the program could also ask minutes but it never stopped me.

I have a dxf with 3d design to open on sw16 saving as sld... step, iges
I tried with the methods described above, but from my acad2011 I don't get anything:

"select objects: specify opposite angle: found(s) 725
no solid, region or body shapemanager has been selected."

have you discovered other methods or have you found a way to do it?

in case someone had more effective software, I leave a copy and request for courteous transformation :d
