I crivo this forum out of curiosity and nothing more, I just need to broaden my knowledge catia v5, my questions are these.

1) which pdm software to use with v5 cat on the internet I found the following devices:

a) enovia v5
b) enovia v6
c) smarteam
d) teamcenter v8

2) Do these software need to run a dbase? suges found on the internet are:

a) oracle

Do you know others?

3) Do you have any reference? Chiera explanation?

because of these questions as well as being out of curiosity but also to promote such an environment in the working field so as to present it to the responsible project area so you avoid 10,000 calls to know the names of the pieces to change, and especially the many emails to check who uses and does not use the part or the assembling in that momeno to avoid errors and overwriting. . .

I read and inspired by the plm aras opensource, I would like to transform my workstation xw6200 into server with windows server 2003 or 2008 the drives to use are always xp you what to say? but does aras have a proper database or should I take one of third parties? without doubt enoviav6, why?
because it is the newest, the integration with catia is developed by dassault (at each catia update there is an update of enovia without having to stand still on a 'old' release, only because the pdm does not yet support the new release)
if something does not work you only see it with the dassault and you are not bounced between the supplier of the cad and the supplier of the pdm (and do not...)
because when a tomorrow you will pass to catiav6 it will be more natural.
It's under a database. oracle is the most famous and, perhaps, the most widespread but there are also other valid db2, sql (depending on the differences)
the problems you mentioned are solved by the pdm (or even more, by the plm).
It's also right to see alternatives, so also ask others that are not dassault and evaluate differences.
