Hello everyone,
I am a mechanical engineer like many in this blog, and I want to subject to your attention my situation, to ask for advice.
I'm almost 33 years old, I've finished the 30th anniversary, and for two years I've been working for a computer consulting firm, my first job.
at the interview, they told me to be a reality engaged in the mechanical design of industrial plants. the truth is that we are (unfortunately or fortunately I am still part of it) a small company that provides consultants (leggasi bodyrental) to a software company, engaged especially in the oil&gas world, for tasks exquisitely it on the software that this software house produces.
At first I thought I was still lucky to have found work at 3/4 months after graduation, immediately after the skill to the profession of engineer, so I committed myself to fill the computer gaps that fascinated me and to try me in this new world and different from what I wanted it to be, so I never did the mechanical designer for how the designers, the real ones.
I was hired to use a software that curates the management of materials of a project, very similar to sap;
quite disappointing experience; he "formed" a non-computer senior, but aspirant such, very prepared on the oil&gas world and the application, but with which I failed to establish any feeling, and that after a few months he left.
later they moved me to the use of a 3d design software, as administrator, which means going to make the software settings to realize plants and units where the modelers will go to design the model of the project and the data catalogs from which they will draw to model components, pipe lines and robes of this genre, and very little if never at modeling level (however more interesting, but less profitable from a economic point of view; modelling advice is paid less by large companies).
then I went to the use of a software that manages the instruments of the aforementioned plants, shortly after to another software, and now I am using a software very similar to autocad, and I do modeling 2-d.
So, after two years (but even much before the feeling was that) I just feel I've lost time and I understand what I don't want.
I would like to change, enter more into the merits of what I studied, whether it is hot mechanics or cold mechanics.
situation in summary:
-I am 33 years old, no experience on the field I intend to undertake (although I must say that I have the ideas still not too clear about it, surely I would like to do something more configuring with my studies and with what I have seen and studied for 10 years, i.e. mechanical design 3d of mechanical components, fem analysis, of the same, nvh, calculation of efforts, tensions, deformations. Mechanical engineering, I mean!
-I wish to go away from my current employment but I can't give up the miserable entry I currently have to pursue my aspirations (I can't fire myself), and above all I would not like to move from the current "padella" to a possible "brace".
-to this regard, I have sent resume vitae for months now, using the classic infojobs, linkedin, manpower, wherever I read classifieds titled with "mechanical engineer", "mechanical designer", "mechanical designer" receiving very blandly called from recruiter who, in the end, have only read distractively the cv and in reality look for people already skilled, or who might ask me about the consent
-I thought I would buy a fem/fea course and acquire skills that make me more attractive to the job market for a future job, and in the meantime strengthen the 3d modeling capacity, completing the tutorials in the solidworks library (all in a limited daily time, because however I will have to work during the day).
- I don't know how to act, they'd be very happy with advice, hints, juices.
