layer resulting from the offset command

Hello everyone
if they are on the alpha (current) layer and create a line with the offset command, existing line on the beta layer, the new line created belongs to the beta layer.
to change layer I have to use the property command
Is there a way to create an object by offset directly on the current layer, alpha?

I recommend frankq before opening a new discussion, reading at least or looking in the autocad help ... seems trivial to say.. But there's almost everything...
