matlab is a programing environment suitable to emulate algorithms of various types... is a vast world and is widespread in the research area and universities, so there are many blogs and many online communities that talk about it, you can start from herehttp://blogs.mathworks.com/instead the other two are two calculation packages to the finite elements, if you want to see how they work specifically I recommend you to get the manuals; if you want to have an overview of what the fem codes do you can find valid dispenses on the topic, for examplehttp://www.unibg.it/data/courses/23004/9927-2005 lezione-2-dispense.pdf(Finally there is also a small list that uses matlab to solve a simple fem problem... )
