mental ray - fg precision preset locked

Good morning.
I am making some renders with mentalray within 3dsmax 2014.
I recently installed 3dsmax 2014 on a pc with win 8.1, 4 g ram and noticed that it does not let me move the cursor of fg precision, it remains locked to custom. If I try to change the fg from the render window, instead, I instantly disable the fg.
on another pc with win 7, instead, everything works fine.
I also verified that the initialization file of the mentalray_fg_presets.ini presets was in the\plugcfg folder and actually is present.
What could be the problem?
Maybe the operating system?

I do not understand that 3ds max 2014 is compatible with win8.1
...to tell the truth many products adsk on win8.1 have rogne

Does it happen only with a particular file or always?

No... unfortunately it happens to me with all the files.
I tried to install the sp3 too but nothing in fact.
The thing is, everything seems to work... if I make nvidiairay it works very well... so I think it's a mentalray problem. .

I have 3dmax 2014 with win 8.1 and don't give me this problem....I would try to re-install max....

check if you have a loaded fg map.. .
