menu for inserting 3ds

I would like to know if there is a way to create a drop-down menu (autocad type) from which to select 3d models to be inserted in a set.
These models are present in one folder (they must be in one folder), but I would like to have the possibility to "filtrate" them by type to insert them into a set.
