Yes, it will always develop the "media face" as you call it.
of course the thickness matters hereme according to what you want to get,
if you make a thickness 1 development and the same development you make it 10 thick and then calandri, it is obvious that the size
inside/external of the two tubes change, while maintaining the same size on the center of the thickness.
