After a couple of years I returned to use microstation, the v8i version (while first I used v8).

as last work I collaborated with a study that uses ms to make drawings for fincantieri.
delivered the job now ask us the prints ".plo"

I have already worked for an fc supply company and this is the first time I've been asked for this type of printing.

any user who uses ms v8i more "serious" and intensively than I could explain how they work and what are the prints like?

I think it's the raw files sent to the print queue, probably hpgl because otherwise it would make little sense, just say you print on files and change the extension (I suppose it's an extension used by them, by default it should be a numerical progressive ). Obviously they must be generated using their print driver that otherwise copying them on the tail gives problems.
