problem in lighting insertion

Hello, everyone.
I have a very trivial problem but I can't find a solution.
I insert omni in my scene (3dstudio 2009), but at the moment when I insert it I see only a small Cartesian reference (there is no glyph of the omni), if deseleziono disappears also this reference. the light continues to be there because I see it, but I can't select it anymore and so I can't place it or change its settings.
the model to which I work is very extensive.

you probably have the active layer on "hide", so when you create objects you create them on a layer off, you do not see them. Turn on the layer on which you are or move to a lit layer.
