For what I know, the id of a hard disk is like the mac of a network card...you can change it, sure...change the chipset! id is not the name of the volume or partition that you can change as you want.
mmmmmmno, the disk id is not the serial number of the disk, but a random number that is assigned from the top to each format.
the serial number is hardware (such as the sch.rete mac), id is software.
