Good morning.

I am at first with the use of autodesk inventor for university reasons, and I have a problem with the orientation of the beam sections.
I am trying to understand in fact how it is possible to establish the arrangement of the section in space. I used the 2d sketch function to draw a line, then I enter into the in-cad nastran environment to provide for idealization. clicking on the "idealization" entry to the window where I can choose to deal with a "line element", and clicking on "transverse section" I can choose the form of the section to attribute to my beam. This section is reported in a yz reference system, which is the first thing I don't understand. My line element is generally oriented in space, and before choosing the size of my section you need to know its orientation. I found a "ruota" entry in the idealization window, but inserting for example "90°" nothing happens, and therefore inventor does not provide feedback on the actual asset assumed by the section. that then "ruota" without a reference system makes no sense, so I keep not understanding how to solve the problem.
Moreover, I would like the line element to pass through a flange of the section, and not for its centeroid. for this I believe I have found the solution, thanks to the voice "offset towards" in the idealization window. such voice leads to a curtain where you can choose between:

-centroid
- cutting center
- reference point

by selecting “reference point” you can choose a point to please on the section, which is called “ offset” and therefore I believe it represents the point where the line element passes. I would also like to ask for confirmation for this feature.

Would anyone suggest a procedure to handle this?
