the collaboration has gone on and has expanded, so much so that in a meeting between putin and enrico letta of the end of 2013, was announced the signature of an agreement aimed to define the project for a ship from drilling to very high innovative and technological content, a "drill ship" able to navigate in conditions of ice often up to 1,5 meters, with ambient temperatures of - 40°c and with an operating autonomy of 4 months.

We are talking about a substantial commission since the Russians, in fact, plans to buy by 2030 some tens of means such as those subject to the agreement, whose unitary value can exceed billion dollars.
fincantieri on the same occasion has announced that it has won the contract with rosrao, the federal unitary state enterprise for the treatment of radioactive waste, for the realization of a semi-submarine floating platform for the transport of reactor compartments of nuclear submarines. this unit, to be built in the Italian yards with delivery by the end of 2015, should a length of 82 meters, a width of 27 and a reach of 3.000 tons. will be destined to the transport of special material between the storage area and the yards in the white sea before the kola peninsula.
I mean... the collaboration began to bear fruit when the Ukrainian crisis occurred with the consequent strong political pressures of Europe and uses and with sanctions of various kinds including the ban on exporting weapons to Russia.
but the sanctions do not affect everyone in the same way. . .

“With our regret, due to the well-known political situation the realization of this project has now been suspended”, said yesterday to the agency itar-tass igor vilnit, general manager of the Russian rubin, with which fincantieri had signed an agreement in 2004.
According to the Russian manager, “in the first half of the year a meeting of the Italian-Russian working group was to be held, but at the request of Italy, the meeting was postponed indefinitely.” for which the agreement for the development of the submarine known as s-1000, which was part of the plans for modernization of the Russian fleet but was also aimed at the potential export, is suspended (declaration copied from the internet).
