Hello, everyone.

I need to dimension a flanged joint that connects two hea 550 beams.
the flanged joint consists of two rectangular section plates which are welded on the two beams and then joined together by proper bolting.
the calculation of the joint does not create me big problems, I only have a doubt about how to calculate/ evaluate the thickness of the plates that will give the joint.
Does anyone have any ideas/points to give me?

Many thanks to all, as usual.

I would say you could use:
- ntc 2008 (technical standards on construction)
- Eurocodes
- cnr 10021
- bolted and welded unions of italsider
Hi.

Thank you gerod,
therefore. .
Unfortunately, I don't have 10021.
of eurocode I have only the 3 and in the appendix j speak of a lot of things but not of thicknesses of flange joints and then refer to beam/column unions while I have union beam/trave.
the only match, although minimal, I found it in the italsider notebooks where it says that the thicknesses of the flanges must be at least equal to the thickness of the wings of the beams to be joined.
You think I can stay like this?

Thank you.

Sorry the cnr 10011.
ntc you find it on the internet, it is law!!!! Just look for it.... and study it.
go with italsider otherwise do like me, I just ordered all the Eurocodes!! ! ! !
;)

I apologize immediately with ing.vedder if I say str..
Having to make a "in continuity" connection to the nose I would feel to verify that the stiffnesses and gj are, after the intervention, comparable.

Hi.
When I read my speech, I realize that it can be mistreated.
do not read and i comparable to gj!
I meant that stiffness (flexional and torsional) should be comparable between hypothetical beams composed of hea 550 of length at l+l2 and real element hea 550 l1 + joint + hea 550 l2.
Obviously the piece should check the applied stresses, but this I think ing.vedder has already verified it.

Sorry I'm late but I wanted to thank everyone for the answers, all very good as the links...

Thanks for the help once again
