My name is daniele opero in the goldsmith sector and I work mainly with rhinoceros,
I was considering the possibility of switching to other software maybe parametric that expand the design possibilities
maintaining the flexibility of intervention that can have a nurbs modeler like rhino... .

I am approaching solidworks know that for mechanical design is cnc construction is much more than valid
but I wondered if it could be a valid alternative to my case where design is sometimes particular and forms are an important point of the model

I would ask you if there is someone using this software can give me some clarification on the possibilities of intervention or if there are other software with these features
I would exclude a priori caia for a question of price

if you simply want to amplify rhino you can evaluate the use of some plugins, such as those dedicated to the goldsmith sector, which you may know, rhinogold o rhinojewel added to sw for organic modeling with subdivide surface, as clayoo, o tspline, or the top for parametric modeling for knots, grasshopper, all widely used for your industry, leading rhino to the top for this use. solidworks sincerely does not seem to me just indicated, parametric sw with the features tree are more suitable for mechanical design, you would not have all the functions for jewelry of the above-mentioned specific solutions.

In fact I already use it with specific plug-ins such as rhinogold and tspline and smart3d the latter a little less known.......
the fact is that I often find myself facing changes on models already finished or simply having to change the finger size without touching everything that is the rest of the model
and there is at least that I know plug-in that can allow me to change one parameter without intervening on the rest
this means that the single modification (also not significant as thicknesses or fittings) depending on the case often means remake part of the model in the most fortunate cases


solidworks in some ways is more precise and dynamic with constraints and parameterization to my project engineering needs but I also have doubts about the software features for my case is why I tried to ask answers to the forum looking for users who know better about the features

on fathoper in fact I know little and I can't give a precise judgment I know that changes the design system with tree structures but in a separate window but I don't know much more

you could take a look at rhinowork, use constraints, but fathopper is unbeatable in this, for few parameters it is not difficult to use.
solidwork honestly seems excessive.
tried with cad using direct modeling, like inventor fusion, or spaceclaim? If you do not have a model with the features and parameters already set, you cannot change the geometries of models you already have, which you can do with the direct modeling. very interesting fusion 360, which combines the.fusion with tspline, is in beta, next release.
