step set options

Bye to all,
for work I have to "disappear" from 3d step files of engines of various brands. very often these files have very heavy dimensions... but I would only need the dimensions of the various engines. I explain better....I only care about the external surfaces for the positioning inside cofanature. according to your experience, what are the best settings to get smaller files? ? ?

I think the only thing you can do is try to save the file in parasolid format, which is more easily digestible by swx.
then open the parasolid file and save it as part of solidworks.
the file obtained should be graphically and as a lighter size than the one obtained by saving the step file in part solidworks.

That's the way it is, and that's the way it stays.
with maximum tolerances can give you greater/minor surface seam problems (solid conversion).

the solution is to take on the best possible steps (first with the default parameters, then perhaps reducing accuracy), get a set (if it is not already native) and save the axieme as part (save with name-save as part (*.sldprt). This will save you a multibody part with features tree-free bodies or surfaces and give you three options:
- all components (a multibody part file with all components)
- external components (only the bodies that are seen from the outside, the internal ones are not inserted)
-External face (only surfaces that can be seen from the outside)

the last option is sufficient for the footprint, but in this case it is not easily manageable being all surfaces and not a solid.

If you have to do operations on the external body that have to be done with solids you will want the second option. If you want the ultimate light. for a complete set with all the details, but that maybe it must be sent in vision (so with limited possibility of intervention) better the first (even if it would be preferable an edrawings: confidentiality in this case is guaranteed by non-exportableness.
