stl file problem with boolean function

Hello everyone,

I explain my problem: I have the obj file of a laser-made groove, my intent is to subtract the geometry from a cube so as to get the negative of the processing and then print it via 3d printer.

the bottom problem is that with Boolean operations I can't get what I want because the sw doesn't allow me to select the geometry to be subtracted, I tried both in rhino and with meshmixer, I also tried by converting the obj file into step, but nothing.

in the forum I found old posts where it was suggested, through a video, to convert the stl file through the use of path (in rhino) but the result obtained is not the hoped one, most likely because the surface of the model is very jagged.

I attach image of the obj file and pattern I would like to get.

I thank those who can help me and apologize if I have not been very clear, but I am not very experienced.

in cad environment you can not subtract from a solid a stl.
you must have two entities of the same type, solid with solid (at solid limit with surfaces) or stl with stl.
so either you model the solid on the base of the sl and then subtract it, or turn the solid into stl and from it you will subtract the other stl.
in geomagic you can ... I don't know if rhino has this function.

first of all thank you for the answer.
regarding the incompatibility between formats I have already tried to use both in stl format: rhino does not let me select either of the two stl, while in meshmixer it makes me boolean but in its way (photo attached).

If you tell me that in geomagics the operation is possible I try to download it, even if I do not know it we see what I can do.

Do I need to download special forms?

Thank you.

excuse maxopus if I correct you. I use powershape pro and I can subtract to a solid a stl. the result is a new mesh object of triangles (stl).

It is an artifice, so much so that the result is a stl.

like everything else, even a solid-surface subtraction follows the same principle. if we want, the very concept of solid b-rep is an artifice (and today they are all).
what matters is the simplicity with which a user can perform a certain operation; If the cad allows me to directly subtract a stl to a solid or vice versa exactly as it does between two solids or two stl without too much preparatory operations, then you can say it does.

with regard to the specific model of Filipino however, given how much the stl model is "accepted" compared to the finite model that would like to obtain, perhaps the best solution would be that of a reverse of the stl, identifying the various "arees" and mediating with a suitable tolerance to obtain the canonical planes and other surfaces that make it (extrusions, cylinders and spheres), composing them in a solid in order to adjust the parallelism or dimensions.

It seems to me that even geomagic as powershape is able to do this, I certainly don't think it does any free or trial product. are professional products (and therefore paid).

Given the apparent geometric simplicity of the model, wouldn't it be easier to assemble calibers and reproduce it directly to cad by taking measures from the physical model? If then the model was gone, then the measurements could take them from the stl, possibly compensating for the scan tolerance.

it seems to me that even the latest versions spaceclaim are able, for a free mei on powershape-e and then carry out in any format, but with a fee http://www.delcam-exchange.com/it/ even if it is a little expensive
