the demonstrator neuron, the unmanned combat air vehicle (ucav) European, with stealth technology, has successfully completed its inaugural flight from the flight test base of dassault aviation, in istres, in collaboration with the staff of the french defense procurement agency (dga). the neuron program was launched in 2005 and involves France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Greece and Switzerland. with dassault aviation as the first contractor, the program sees engaged the skills and know-how of alenia aermacchi (italia), saab (swezia), eads-casa (spagna), you have (grecia), ruag (swisss) and thales (francia).
with a length of 10 meters, a wingspan of 12.5 meters and a vacuum weight of 5 tons, the aircraft is equipped with a rolls-royce turbomeca adour propeller. the neuron will continue the tests in france until 2014, when it will be sent to the wedge for a series of operational tests. you will then pass to the perdadesfogu polygon (italia) for further tests, in particular shooting tests and regarding stealth capabilities.
