Good evening. from two years to this part I am a mac user, I have recently discovered the existence of the program vectorworks, from many considered superior to the many software present on the market (from revit to archicad). There are those who praise the versatility and freedom of this program and therefore I decided that in my training course, it would be useful to acquire more knowledge on this program. the difficulties were many, although behind I had a good training in the use of programs such as autocad, archicad, cinema and others. However I cannot fail to appreciate in vw the ability to manage the workflow in my opinion unequaled today, even by the historical autocad father of every architect and engineer. I would like to make this brief introduction to you experts some problems I have encountered in the use of vw, in the hope that they can be solved:
1. I don't find in resource management a good library of restraints. at least the basic ones used in restoration and architectural practice. Can you give me directions?
2. When I create a parametric wall, and I check to this the various components of the wall, in high view, drawing a rectangular perimeter of a house, I find that the restraints have a solution of continuity in the corners. I said that this problem is due to the fact that the walls, designed by means of the appropriate "muro" parametric command, even if drawn in sequence (intendo the way of tracking the wall by broken) the software recognizes for each mouse click a separate wall from the next, therefore the retino that will be assigned will be tied to the only piece of wall and therefore the second adjacent wall will have in the corner a different retino attack; therefore I will find myself in high view of the solutions of continuity in the corners. Is there a solution to this? I see many tutorials and elaborate products from vw, in which this problem is not visible.
3. Is there a way to draw variable section walls without losing the parametric properties of the wall?
4. Is there a command similar to the joint command (join) of autocad?
5. in modeling 3d (not parametric, so I speak of solids), is it possible to move the vertices or edges of a solid? or vw only works for faces like autocad? I refer to the skills of modelers such as cinema4d that allow to work a solid through its vertices, faces and edges.
I ask in advance for my gaps in the use of the program and in the lack of technical property of language, but I hope I was understandable in explaining my problems. in thanking you in advance for your patience I look like your disappointments. Thank you.

Hi.
He thinks that in 15 years of profession I never used autocad. I started using vectorworks (then minicad) at a faculty course and then I was lucky to enter a studio where they already used it... Well, now I'm going to answer.

1. basic dashboards don't seem to me a few, but if even those available in the software library folder are not enough, you have the advantage that they are editable. select one from the resources, duplicate it and change it according to your needs. you can create a custom hold bookcase.

2. basically depends on the options of that retino. If it is selected rotate in wall, it adapts to the angle of the wall and therefore you do not see it continuous on the edges.
rotate.webpno-rotate.webp3. Unfortunately, despite the numerous requests to today no walls with variable section. you have to play it with wall projection and wall recess (adjects and niches), which in reality, knowing how to model (the forms to insert or subtract), can be of great help.

4. cmd+j (join) on mac; will be ctrl+j on win I imagine. . .

5. you can move tops of nurbs, mesh, 3d poly... with the editing tool (reshape).
with 2016 you also have the subdivision tool, this video can help you understand its potential more than many words https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dh1tydxbfhq

Thank you very much! for point two I noticed that the restraints return the above error, because of the reference scale of the drawing. in scale 1:1 present solutions of continuity, while in scales 1:200, 1:100, 1:50, the so-called architectural scales, the problem does not exist. I wish a good Easter and I reserve to contact the forum in case of uncertainties and gaps on the software. Thank you.

Hi.
a thing to keep in mind of vw: it is not recommended to work on the 1:1 scale design layers. even if you then embellish and print from the sheet layers I always recommend you set the design scale already on the design layer.
Good Easter to you too!
I do.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you. I take advantage of your kindness and your knowledge to ask you a good method to get correct projections of shadows in bidimensiobalii representations (high, prospectus and section). I read in this forum, that a method would be to use artistic rendering with shadows, but the result does not satisfy me at all. look your courteous
delucidations. Thank you.

If you mean a way to automatically realize 2d shadows, there is not yet, but I can anticipate that developers have been working on it for a long time;-)

do you mean that it is not possible to get some prospects or shady planes?

Yes, it is possible, all that is 3d generates shadows. then depends on the result he wants to get.
I do.
