last night I was able to watch videos describing the novelties of the 2014 version.
the news, as in every new version, are many and interesting.
every year the program grows of potential 2d and 3d-bim.
I expected, what happened, the possibility to get automatically from the volume you section a viewport section.
solid modeling, already powerful, with the new version has become amazing in helping the creativity of an architect.

text this version from June and I immediately noticed a lot of fluidity, even on old machines like this macpro on which I work (2006); to the face of those who suffer from "performance anxiety" of the video card... ;-)
the enhanced opengl is a remarkable step forward, and on this machine it goes great!
many things have been enhanced and improved. other are new (such as the crop of images).
the developments of solid modeling tools are definitely amazing, as you noticed.
but one of the things that gave me greater satisfaction in the work of every day is the export of pdf/dwg in one barrel, even from several closed files. Batch operation that brings a huge gain of time, regarding me... I'm always running.

You could clarify how opengl enhanced works (since I work with imac in 2009).

what we have explained is that it requires opengl 2.1 libraries, which are supported by all mac except the old mini with integrated graphics card intel. on my late mbp 2008 in fact works great also with the integral. but I must say that, while having two video cards, the discrete practically never activated it. ;-)
So I don't think you'll have any trouble.

interesting as new functionality.
I also noticed, from video on the net, that the tool "fly through" was greatly enhanced.
I think it better exploits opengl libraries.
I also own as a second computer a mbp 13" of 2010 it owns an integrated video card, until today with vw (also with challenging files) never gave problems.
I press that to it, to use it as a fixed station, is connected a 24" monitor and works wonderfully.
I will wait with curiosity for the arrival of the new version of vw 2014, to better know and use these new functions and test them on the two machines present at my studio.

other interesting thing, the possibility to create windows with unusual shapes. I missed the circular one, which I always replaced with a 3d symbol. but having a parametric object is all another thing!

Hello everyone, I am a beginner of vectorworks. I just bought the architect version 2013, but are obviously waiting for the upgrade to 2014! I join your disquisition on opengl and present my question: I have a very new pc, superpower and with ram in abundance (just buy them are always so!). I launch an opengl display and get the serrated effect to the contours (there is no way to eliminate it with anti-aliasing). the graphics card, goes by itself, is superperforming, set to the maximum quality. Where is the hippo according to you?

You should attach some pictures, so we could better understand and maybe help.
However surely ram memory does not affect the result of opengl display.
you should try to change the parameters set on vw which:
1 - opengl quality;
2 - quality resolution 3d.

Hello,
I'll attach the two test images I've done with the set levels as much as you showed. In reality it is seen that the problem of serrated margins is in both cases (opengl and renderworks realistic white) and only on shadows, so I can think that it is not of poor performance but of a setting to be improved in phase of rendering. Perhaps this is not the best place to discuss these technical details, but as I said I just arrived.

Hi.

I recommend you, if you have to export a render or table with a viewport, to use the solid method that works best. the settings are correct, the settings are defined by them.
However if you want to see something "performing" you can't do without putting good textures and using at least one accurate rendering for exterior or interior, I'm testing the renderworks module, I'll attach you some proof that I'm making sure not reachable with open gl (full of the screen and little light... :wink: )

I have never read of incompatibility between vectorworks and macmini. In fact, the last machines must be quite efficient. the latest versions of vw throw enough video cards but I use 2014 on a 2006 macpro without problems. where did you read about video card issues?
Get yourself a car with a lot of rams, as you travel on a 64bit system.

vw works with opengl 2.1 libraries, which is why I wrote that I did not read or feel incompatibility.
here. http://www.vectorworks.net/architect/sysreq.php they clearly talk about video cards and say that the most problems have been found on old video cards.

Can you tell me what video card is up to your macpro?

mh, I go looking... this has a nvidia geforce 7300 gt (256mb). here opengl is still quite fluid, with its shadows. but depends on the complexity of the model obviously. on the 3d models of a certain weight it is very difficult.
While on my macbookpro late 2008 I can tell you that I always use the supplement (geforce 9400m) while also having the discrete, which I will have activated si and no a couple of times. and also there opengl works discreetly.
I imagine that things are better on the most recent machines
