Sorry the banal question, but I'm starting to use autocad, the 2013 version

I think you could use autodesk showcase, without trying too much with 3dmax as you don't have much knowledge.
my advice and to create the whole object in 3d but keeping separate the various solids, and immediately after amounts the dwg file in showcase.
In my opinion my showcase is very intuitive and then you find many tutorials on youtube that explain how to do it.
if you learn to use it will give you good results, born as software to render.
