I always wanted to know if there is a possibility to adjust images in the simplest functions (remove, modify saturation brightness etc.).

crop: yes, change saturation brightness etc...: no. but if you leave external images (as reference) and use any image retouching program, the changes that apply are automatically transposed.

It is already a great thing to be able to cut them out. . but how do you do it without creating a viewport?

create an image resource and apply it to a rectangle. then cut out the rectangle so you can hide the parts you don't care about.
