I would like to ask you for advice on the analysis and assessment of the risks of a machine already designed and not modified at this point of view.
I was asked to carry out risk analysis starting practically from scratch.
I would begin like this:
- risk analysis with the help of the fmeca method, so considering every possible component of the machine I define possible breakages and possible causes. for every dangerous event I define severity, frequency and detectability.
I would like to ask you, but is there any legislation inherent in the actual values to give to these parameters?(I found examples where values ranged from 0 to 5, others from 0 to 10 and so on).
- risk assessment by verifying that the criticality parameter falls within a tolerability zone. If not, I would make security devices such as to ride or eliminate the risk (as already mentioned I cannot change the project).
Is it right how I'm going? I hope someone can help me

the mistake you make usually is to do risk analysis on a machine already made and then try to prove that it is compliant on the card.
And if you don't know what you do at some point?
if you trade a crime.
as said there is no clear method. There is a standard for identifying dangers (iso 14121-1). Risk analysis is subjective and therefore you can use any method.
I usually use the method:
r = gxfxpxe
r= risk, i.e. the calculation result
g = gravity (1 = mild, 2 = average, 4 = death)
f = frequency of exposure to danger (1 = low; 2 = average; 4 = high)
p = chance that the event will happen (1 = unlikely; 2 = likely)
e = avoidability (1 = yes, 2 = no)
then you put the limits or the thresholds within which you are ok,
